The Importance of Amino Acids to Hair Health

When it comes to your health, you know that you need low-fat calories, proteins, vitamins, minerals, fiber, and carbohydrates to maintain a strong and evenly stressed body.  Of course, each of these nutrients are different and should be regarded in different ways in terms of intake. Amino Acids Defined

Put simply, amino acids are the building blocks of proteins. Alternately, when you consume protein, it breaks down into amino acids.  Thus, some of the nutrition you get from protein is amino acids that the body will reuse in specific biological processes.  The human body is about 70 percent water and about 20 percent protein, so amino acids (which, again, are building blocks for protein) are very important.  These nutrients are key components to the building of muscle, organs, and fibers throughout the body.

Amino Acids in the Human Body

The human body has an amino acid pool that is about 125 grams.  When we consume proteins, we break them down into amino acids and then add those to the pool to help build proteins.  We perform this exchange several times a day and that is why it is important to consume foods that have amino acids.

Because amino acids are the building blocks of all proteins they are essential for hair health.  Obviously, hair is made of proteins.  When you consume amino acids—along with vital vitamins and minerals (the antioxidant vitamins A, C, and E, and the minerals zinc and iron) you can better ensure the long, healthy life of your hair.
